About Us / Elected Members

Members of Council

The Council consists of 7 members, comprising of a President, Visce President and five Councillors.

The Council elects a President (currently Mark Joraslafsky) and Vice President (currently vacant) from among the 7 elected members at the first meeting after elections.

To become a member of Council you need to be over the age of eighteen, have lived in the Mataranka Council area for more than six months, be enrolled as a voter within the Mataranka Council area and be elected by the community.

President

Mark, (commonly known as "Jorro"), has been a Member of Council since the late 1980's, and has served as President for the past four years. Jorro was recently (20th April 2004)elected to another term as Council President. He is the Manager of Northern Cement, one of Mataranka's largest employers.

George Clapperton

Elected Member

George Clapperton is a rural contractor and is serving his second consecutive term on Council. He lives on Stylo Station.

Judy MacFarlane

Elected Member

Judy joined Mataranka Council in its 1992-1996 term and returned in a by-election in 2002, and has been a resident for about 20 years.

She is employed as an Administration Officer/TA at Mataranka Primary School. She is involved with the Bushman's Carnival Inc, the Better Half Club and Variety.
